YIRRAMBOI & Dark Mofo Presents KIN

kin is a presentation of artwork and performance developed in partnership with YIRRAMBOI + Dark Mofo, bringing together Koorie and Palawa artists to create new works. Kin highlights the cross-cultural connections and kinship between the Koorie and Palawa peoples through the development of creative works, the building of relationships, and exchanging of knowledge. The partnership and development of these collaborative works centre on our ancient kinship and cultural connections through the sharing of stories of our past, present, and future. Each work speaks to a particular narrative with the overarching theme of kinship that connects them all.

MAAB - Give, Offer & Sell

Our Ancestorshave actively been trading for many millennia. Whether it may be Food,Resources, Tools, or Weapons all have impacted the techniques, skills, andservices our people could implement to provide for family and community.

“MAAB” in theTaungurung Language means to Give, Offer or Sell. These 3 items allcorrespond with its meaning, each having its own significance.

“KULIN MAN MAN”is a Pendant & Necklace craftedcarefully with a Ceramic finish. The cross-hatching lines represent Kulin Men& Women whilst the diamond pattern design around this embodies ‘Bunjil theCreator’. Once Sax-Williams completed this piece it was gifted to his partnerto carry for protection.

“WIRRIP BUNDI”is a Decorative Bundi Stick/Club designed andoffered to his tribe for ceremonial purposes. The staff of the club is wrappedin “WALERT” Possum Skin and displays aburnt pattern design reflecting the mountains where Taungurung people reside.

Finally, “NANBU GOORK” the Ancestral DNA Skateboard depicts thecontinuous connection to his Ancestors living and moving through his blood. Each line indicates thousands of generations and genes that still exists insidehis DNA.
